School safety
should be transparent.
A nonprofit initiative making school safety measurable and accessible for parents, students, and communities. Starting with Connecticut's Fairfield County.
Families can compare academics.
They should be able to compare safety, too.
Safety data, made simple.
Most school safety information is scattered across district pages, policy documents, and public records. This platform turns that into a clear, trusted, standardized view.
Search, filter, and compare schools across 20 individual safety metrics. Every score is backed by documented evidence and public records.
Select up to three schools and compare their safety profiles side by side across all five categories to make informed decisions.
Every scoring criterion is fully documented. See exactly what data sources we used and how each of the 20 metrics was evaluated.
School Safety Scorecards
Five Fairfield County high schools scored across 20 safety metrics. Click any school for a full breakdown, or select schools to compare side by side.
A transparent framework
built around 100 points
Schools are evaluated on practical indicators that families and communities care about most using a methodology that is consistent, explainable, and designed to encourage improvement.
Simple for families.
Rigorous behind the scenes.
We file FOIA requests, review public safety policies, district materials, and official school information using primary sources and CT state government data.
We verify key safety features through direct outreach, documentation review, CT SDE data, and site-based evidence where available.
We score each school using a consistent 100-point methodology and publish easy-to-read results families can understand and act on.
What makes this model strong
Every score is traceable back to a documented source and a defined criterion, with no black boxes.
Ratings are grounded in documented safety features, not vague opinions or self-reported data from schools.
Each category score comes with specific recommendations, helping schools understand exactly how to improve.
Designed to scale from a Fairfield County pilot to a national school safety platform over time.
Full Methodology
Every point in our 100-point scale is accounted for below. We believe schools and families deserve to know exactly how ratings are determined.
Data Sources & Verification: Scores are derived from Connecticut Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, CT State Department of Education public records, district websites, school board meeting minutes, law enforcement partnership records, and direct correspondence with school administrators. Where documentation could not be verified, scores reflect the lowest defensible estimate. Schools may request a formal review by contacting us.
